Carol Ruth Giles was born on July 29, 1935 in Fayetteville, Arkansas. Her parents were Leroy and June Giles. Carol married Charles Chapin on June 11, 1958. They were married for 63 years and lived in Socorro and Albuquerque. Their love of traveling took them to many places, including Norway and St. Petersburg. Her love for art led her to owning an art studio in Socorro.

Carol received her RN from Highland School of Nursing in Oakland, Calif., her BSN from Mills College in Oakland, and her MA in Counseling from Webster University branch in Albuquerque. She practiced nursing in hospitals, home health care, hospice, school Public Health, and with Indian Health Care on isolated Navajo reservations while living in Socorro. Carol moved to Albuquerque and joined the NM Grief Intervention Program, CISD/CISM, and Office of the Medical Investigator. Her nursing career allowed her to visit Kenya and Mexico for nursing programs.

Carol passed away on January 15, 2022 after a valiant fight with Alzheimer’s. Carol is survived by her husband Charles and her three children: Giles, John, and Laura Chapin. She has nine grandchildren. She will be missed terribly by all. Carol’s life was full of love for her family, friends and working with people. She was the kindest, most giving person we know and we all love and miss her.
