Lupe Montoya 1936 – 2024

We are deeply saddened by the great loss of our beloved Mother, Grandmother, and Great-Grandmother, Lupe (Aguilar) Montoya, who passed away on May 30, 2024, at the age of 88.
Lupe was born on May 12, 1936, in San Antonio, NM. Throughout her life, she touched the hearts of everyone she met. She lived a full faithful life, shown by her love for her family, dedication to the Church, and kindness to her friends and co-workers.
Lupe was preceded in death by the love of her life, her husband Francisco A. Montoya, in 1978. Now alone on her journey to raise her children she never faltered, leading by example continuing with grace and dignity embracing strength from her faith in the Lord, along with her devotion to the Blessed Mother. She was preceded in death by her parents Valente Aguilar and Inez Reed Aguilar, her brothers Pablo Aguilar, George Aguilar, Lorenzo Aguilar, and sister Priscilla (Aguilar) Montoya.
She is survived by her brother Luis Aguilar, her children Lorraine Montoya, Francisco (Frankie) A. Montoya Jr., Phillip R. Montoya, David M. Montoya (Charlene), and the grandson she raised as a son, Francisco (Frankie) A. Montoya III (Candice). Lupe also leaves behind her grandchildren Brandon Montoya, David Montoya Jr. (Bailey), Katelynn Montoya, Kelly Lehem (Dale), Nicole Padilla, Randall Montoya (Meradeth), Josh Chavez (Haley), and Tiffany Montoya.
Her 16 great-grandchildren: Francisco (Paco) Montoya IV, Lupita Montoya, Rhett Lehem, Trinity Montoya, Amaris Montoya, Salina Murillo, Shantay Foulenfont , Constance Foulenfont, Serenity Montoya, Nadia Montoya, Randal Montoya Jr., Gianna Montoya, Jazzlynn Chavez, Josh Chavez Jr., Jackson Chavez, and Jaylee Chavez.
Lupe’s passions included working in her beautiful yard with her little dogs trailing behind. She loved to sew and crochet, making afghans for all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She made homemade flour tortillas and distributed them to her family every week. Lupe was dedicated to her church, and her strong faith carried her through her entire life. She often held Posada Christmas mass at her home, along with her son Phillip, serving as Majordomos of the San Antonio Catholic Church. Lupe was also a member of the Legion Mary Auxiliary Honor Guard. Every year she walked the Pilgrimage Walk on Good Friday from San Antonio to Luis Lopez. Leading in prayer. Walking her last walk this year at age 87. Always serving a delicious Lenten meal afterwards. She worked as secretary for the San Antonio school for many years. Then she worked at Socorro General Hospital in medical records.
Throughout her life, Lupe was known for her many contributions. She will always be remembered for her kindness, humbleness, and generosity. In her final hours surrounded by her children and grandchildren. And with our great sorrow and broken hearts she continued her final journey, answering her Heavenly Father’s call home and went on her path to Heaven.
Services for Lupe will be held on Friday, June 7, 2024, at San Miguel Catholic Church. A visitation will take place at 9 a.m. followed by the rosary at 9:30 a.m. A mass will then be recited at 10 a.m. Lupe will then be laid to rest at the San Antonio cemetery.
