Matthew James Middleton July 25, 1948 – October 3, 2025
Matt Middleton, husband, father, and grandfather was born in Albuquerque, NM and lived in Albuquerque, El Paso, San Francisco, Tucson, Datil and finally, for the last 43 years in Magdalena, NM.
He worked as a freelance radio journalist, documentary producer, and all-around multi-media producer. His locally known documentary, “Way Out There”, celebrates the history of the Magdalena area and the colorful characters that have embroidered its past. He also produced, directed and narrated several other documentaries, including “Son of Ireland”, the story of Brother Mathias who founded the Brothers of the Good Shepherd; “Del Valle” – celebrating the norteña music (Bernie Romero and Friends) and customs of the Rio Grande River valley; and “Take Me to the Island”, a cultural documentary of Micronesia. A friend and mentor paid this tribute: “In the 50 years I’ve known him, Matt has always lent a hand to those who need it most, mocked the most mockable, sought and found good trouble, and celebrated his and other lives to the fullest.”
He is survived by his wife, Lynda G. Middleton of Magdalena, NM; his daughter, Loril I. Gibson-French (husband – Christopher) of Sun City, AZ; and grandson, Cian Callahan of Globe, AZ.
