Rev. Jon Aidan Marr 1933 -2022
Socorro resident Rev. Jon Aidan Marr (born Jon Marr Stark) died May 19, 2022, in Albuquerque. He was 88.
Fr. Jon was born August 7, 1933, in Denver, Colo., to John Hutton Stark and Margaret Marr Stark.
He attended school in Denver and graduated from UC Boulder in 1956.
Ordained in 1959, Jon began his ministry in Estes Park, CO.
In 1969, Fr. Jon became rector of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Denver. He was the first in Denver to provide shelter and services for unhoused young adults. To support this mission, he founded the Order of the Holy Family. His lived example inspired many others to enter seminary and become priests.
In 1984, Jon retired and moved to Santa Fe, where he founded Braemarr Kennel, a celebrated boarding and pet service business. He personally saved dozens of abandoned animals from euthanasia, boarding them for free and ultimately adopting them. His final years were spent in Socorro, where he moved to be near his sister, Elaine.
Jon is survived by two half-brothers, Robert and William Stark. His sister, Elaine, died in 2020.
A memorial service will be held October 19, 2024, at 11 a.m. MT at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, Denver.
The service will be live-streamed at https://www.standrewdenver.org/livestream.
