Richard and Lupe met in the mid 1940’s on South Williams Street in Albuquerque. After serving in the US Navy Richard returned home and they were married on March 26, 1951. Richard passed just 53 days after his bride - a beautiful testament of their love story. They had been married for 73 years.
Richard was the true definition of a man of faith. He was strong and courageous, and so proud of his family. Richard loved to golf, but working was his passion. He was a barber by trade until 1992, however his true love was farming. Richard, for some time, farmed a 100+ acre chili and hay farm that he worked in some form until the spring of 2023. Richard also served for three years in the US Navy as an E-3 Engineer on the USS Ashtabula.
Lupe loved Jesus with all her heart and walked very closely with him. Lupe was the librarian at Socorro High School for 10 years. Lupe loved her home and poured into her family immensely. Her greatest passion was quilting and crocheting; one of her proudest achievements was handmaking each of her grandkids a quilt of their own.
Together, they were members of the First Baptist Church in Socorro for nearly 50 years, where Richard also served as deacon. He and Lupe also served at the Spanish Mission for 5 years.
Richard was preceded in death by his wife - Lupe, brother - Francisco “Pancho”, and parents, Francisco and Seferina Zamora. He is survived by 6 siblings: Angela (Benny) Martinez, Benny (Louise) Zamora, Marcella Weig, Eloy (Lupe) Zamora, Josephine “Fita” (Andy) Contreras, Mary Ann (Eddie) Gonzales.
