Changes in leadership at Socorro School District
Dear Editor,
In Response to Inquiries from the Press and the Public, SCS Issues the Following Statement:
The Socorro Consolidated Schools Board of Education recently decided to change directions in its leadership. Because the former superintendent had not yet accepted a contract offer for the coming year, the Board was free to withdraw it, which it ultimately unanimously voted to do so at its meeting on June 24, 2024. The former superintendent served his full contract term, which ended on June 30,2024.
While there may be many questions around the decision to change direction, the Board and District officials do not discuss personnel matters. That being said, it is the prerogative of the Board to assess such matters and to select a new direction at the end of any superintendent contract.
Members of the Socorro community should know that they can expect focused leadership from the Board, and it is excited that Interim Superintendent Aubrey E. Tucker, an experienced school administrator, accepted the offer to step into the role. The Board is enthusiastic about the district’s potential for growth, and to reimagining the educational goals and tools for Socorro students. The Board and Interim Superintendent Tucker invites the community to bring their ideas and energy forwards as the district begins a new era.
