Letter to the editor
Dear Editor,
I live in Magdalena, on my mom’s patch of land.
It means a lot to me (and her!) to be able to help her out with the birds and dogs and plants. But four years ago, I didn’t have the energy to do much more than lay on my couch.
I didn’t know it, but I had severe anemia from a whole bunch of fibroids.
Once I was able to get on Medicaid, I was referred to Socorro General Hospital, where I finally got the two iron infusions I badly needed. I will always be grateful for the care I got from the medical professionals at our hospital.
Every time I pass that parking lot gleaming with cars - and sometimes our EMS helicopter - I know that others like me who need care, many of whom rely on Medicaid, are there to get the help they need.
That place on Hwy 60 is one big reason I’m healthier and stronger today than I’ve been in years. If we lose Socorro General Hospital, it would be an unimaginable loss to me and to so many others all over Socorro County.
Let’s call our senators. Let’s call our representatives. Keep our hospital alive!
