Do your job: Federal shutdown hurts Socorro
Why is it that our congressional representatives continue to be paid to stay at home while not representing us in Washington DC, as they were elected to do while paychecks are being withheld from others and even basic, much needed food benefits withheld from so many more? The Senate continues to work and so should the House.
Here in Socorro we’re feeling the impact of the shutdown in things like SNAP benefits withheld, military retirement checks not received, travel disruptions and increased health care costs. Everyone needs to be at work to negotiate the government reopening!
Speaker Johnson - recall the House. Do your job! Let our Representatives get to work and do their job!

Stop dumping in our cemeteries
I go to the cemetery south of Masonic Cemetery. I have six family members buried there and every so often I see a big load of trash dumped there and then it disappears. What kind of people would do that? I don’t know if it’s the city or county picking up the trash. We pay taxes for it. I would like to see people have a little more pride. People are buried up there and people need to show a little respect to our loved ones who have passed and to their families.
