Senior Expo coming to Socorro, October 3

Call all Seniors! Join us for a day of health and wellness on Thursday, October 3, as the first of its kind Senior Expo will be conducted from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Socorro Convention Center.

The Senior Expo will be a wonderful opportunity for seniors to learn, connect, and discover various resources available to enhance your health, well-being, and overall quality of life.

Wanda Moeller, publisher of El Defensor Chieftain, said the goal of the expo is to engage, educate and empower senior citizens. The focus, she said, is to connect seniors, caregivers, and professionals to improve the quality of lives.

A partnership between the El Defensor Chieftain and the Valencia County News-Bulletin, the Senior Expo promises to be an informative and engaging affair.

The free, one-day Expo will feature vendor booths, and speakers during the 5-hour event. Major sponsors for this year’s event are Presbyterian Socorro General Hospital, City of Socorro, Noblin Funeral Home and Smokal.

At the event, community members will have the opportunity to interact with representatives from various organizations specializing in health and wellness, social services, benefits, and more. It’s their chance to ask questions, gather information, and explore the services and programs that could benefit them or their loved ones.

In addition to health-related services, the Senior Expo also offers a platform for you to explore social Services and benefits available in the community. Whether you’re looking for support groups, transportation options, or recreational activities, you’ll find valuable resources to help you stay connected, engaged, and fulfilled.

There will be about 20 vendors ranging from health care services, financial services, insurance, hearing and many more businesses to offer goods and services to community seniors. There will be free coffee and rolls served up by Presbyterian Socorro General Hospital’s Community Relations and Development Committee.

Plus, there will be free Flu, Shingles and Pneumonia shots during the expo while supplies last. Health care providers have those attending to be patient, because each vaccination must be registered into a data base with the state health department.

Every year, El Defensor Chieftain and the Valencia County News-Bulletin, publish a Senior Source special section. This year’s expo is the first event conducted between the two publications.

As of press time, vendors scheduled to be on-site include Presbyterian Socorro General Hospital, City of Socorro, Noblin Funeral Home, Smokal, Positive Outcomes, First State Bank of Socorro, Daniels Funeral Home, Socorro County, Natural Burial, State Farm Insurance Damien Ocampo, Forget Me Not Veterans Park, Socorro Transportation, MX Automotive, Meals on Wheels, New Mexico Hearing and Tinnitus, Socorro Good Samaritan, Insurance Links, Albuquerque Journal, Valencia County News-Bulletin and El Defensor Chieftain.
