Blue Canyon Trail Run

The Blue Canyon Trail run took place on Saturday, Dec. 13, at the Socorro Rodeo Grounds and Sports Complex. Runners for the 18 miler began their race in chilly conditions at 7 a.m. It had warmed up a little bit when the 10K runners started at 8 a.m., but a cool breeze still persisted.

A total of 20 runners ran this year, with seven in the 10K race and 13 in the 18 miler. Three more were signed up but did not make it that day, making for 23 total registrants. Those numbers are up from the 18 total last year, even with the short notice planning for the event due to the government shutdown this fall. Most of the course is on Bureau of Land Management land, so permitting was on pause for the event until the shutdown ended.
