Junior wrestlers showcase talent at state championships

The Socorro Warrior Junior Wrestling team roared into the New Mexico Junior Wrestling (NMJW) State Championships and delivered a series of stunning performances, culminating in multiple state titles and podium finishes. The Warriors showcased exceptional talent and determination throughout the day, solidifying their reputation as a force to be reckoned with in the state.

The highlight of the day came with three wrestlers claiming coveted state championship titles. Elianna Gonzalez demonstrated her dominance in the 14U Girls 165/185 division, capturing gold. Marius Lucero followed suit in the HS 121 division, securing another championship for the Warriors. Julian Aldrich completed the trio of champions, claiming victory in the highly competitive HS 215 division.

The Warriors’ success didn’t stop there. Several wrestlers battled their way to the finals, earning state runner-up honors. Analeyah Gonzalez showcased her skill in the 8U Girls 85 division, while Kalena Vanlandingham fought valiantly in the HS Girls 132 division, both bringing home silver medals.

Adding to the medal haul, the Warriors saw several wrestlers clinch third-place finishes. Alejo Aldaz impressed in the 6U 39 division, Sylas Heras Quezada demonstrated her prowess in the 12U Girls 80 division, and Kason Vanlandingham battled his way to third place in the HS 152 division.

Aaliyah Aldaz earned a hard-fought 4th place in the 8U Girls 55 division.

Further demonstrating the depth of the Socorro program, Sterling Winders (8U 65), Kennedy McNeil (8U Girls 70), Aimree Chavez (10U Girls 65), and Silvano Heras Quezada (12U 90) all secured sixth-place finishes, adding valuable points to the team’s overall performance.

“We are incredibly proud of all our wrestlers,” said a team spokesperson. “Their hard work, dedication, and sportsmanship were evident throughout the tournament. To see so many of our athletes achieve such high levels of success is a testament to their commitment and the support of our coaches and families.”
