Four girls from Magdalena competed alongside 100 plus riders from all over the state in the rodeo this past weekend at the Socorro Rodeo Grounds. Jewel Mirabal and Shayden Santillanes rode in the high school events, while Jintrie Mirabal and Madison Chavez-Lopez competed in junior high events. Those events included pole bending, barrel racing, goat tying, breakaway, and ribbon roping.

The girls participate in a Rodeo club at the Magdalena Municipal Schools and will also be competing in several other New Mexico High School Rodeo Association and NM Junior High Rodeo Association events this year. This fall season they will compete in Grants Sept. 26-28, in Fort Sumner Oct. 10-12, and in Clovis Oct. 31 to Nov. 2. Riders accumulate points in these events to take into the State Finals Rodeo.
