The Community 5K fundraiser took place on Friday, Oct. 3, at 6 p.m., at the Socorro Sports Complex and Rodeo Grounds. Participants of all ages showed up to support the Socorro Cross Country teams. They paid $5 each, plus additional donations sometimes, to show their support financially. Many also showed their support by cheering during the cross country meet and lending a hand to make the day a success.

“More than 60 friends came out to run with us in the Community Race on Friday, including the CVCS Running Club.” Socorro runner and Cross Country Head Coach Beth Cadol said.

This run is a partnership between the SMS and SHS cross country teams and the Socorro Striders and Riders, and it took place right after the Socorro Stampede cross country meet finished up. After running their own races on Friday, many of the Socorro XC runners stayed on to run or help support the 5K fundraiser afterwards. Some ran their second 5K of the day, some volunteered, some cheered at different sections of the course, some ran sweep at the tail end to make sure everyone made it, and many helped to clean up.

“The Community 5k was a really fun way to end the day, especially since we had so many kids and families come out for it.” Cadol said.

This run is also a part of the Socorro Striders and Riders Fall 5K series. Check their website for the upcoming race line-up, which currently includes a Halloween 5K Fun Run and the Thanksgiving Turkey Trot 5K and one mile run/walk:
