Seven Warriors selected to All-State football team
Socorro’s Isaiah Ocampo’s repeat selection as the Class 3A Player of the Year highlights seven All-State selections for Warrior football players. Ocampos was also named first-team All-State on offense and defense.
Despite playing in one less game than in 2023, Ocampo upped his numbers from his first season as the Warriors’ full-time signal caller, leading the state in passing with 2,593 yards and 36 touchdowns while adding 1,291 more yards and nine touchdowns on the ground.
In two years as starting QB, Ocampo recorded 4,662 yards through the air and 63 touchdowns. On the ground, Ocampo rushed for 2,443 yards and 17 touchdowns.
On defense, Ocampo led the Warriors in total tackles with 69 stops that included 44 solos, and he led Socorro with three interceptions.
After already fielding two offers to play football at the next level, David Gutierrez Jr. being named to the first-team All-State defense is no surprise. Gutierrez led the Warriors on total tackles per game, averaging 8.6 tackles per game while playing in seven games this season.
Junior wide receiver Jay Lee is a dual All-State selection with a first-team selection on offense and a second-team selection on defense. Lee averaged 107.5 yards receiving per game this season, and 58 catches for 1,182 yards and 17 touchdowns. Lee’s 30 tackles on defense were highlighted by 21 solo stops.
Ian Gonzales’ battles in the trenches were noticed by coaches, and his second-team All-State selection is an awesome finish for the senior.
The Warriors also picked up three All-State honorable mention selections.
Sophomore defensive end Dakota Johnson was the Warriors’ solo tackle leader. In nine games, he recorded 49 of them, for a total of 63.
Senior linebacker Cenyon had 27 tackles with 17 solos while also recording 531 yards rushing and a 7.0 yard-per-carry average.
It’s hard for junior centers to make it onto the All-State roster, but the Warriors' Gabriel Giron muscled his way into the honorable mention selections. Giron was also a force on defense with 33 tackles.
