Socorro County Football
Friday, Oct. 10, saw two of the Socorro County football teams resting with bye weeks.
The Alamo Cougars and the Magdalena Steers had the week off as far as games go.
Only the Socorro team played last week, in a loss to the Hatch Valley Bears on Friday, Oct. 10.
Magdalena Steers will travel to Texas this week
Magdalena will travel to El Paso, Texas, to play a nondistrict game against the Da Vinci Dragons on Oct. 17 at 6 p.m.. Both teams are 5-1 entering this game, so it looks to be a competitive match-up. The Steers are first place in their district with a 2-0 record and just one more district game to go.
Alamo Cougars travel to Ramah for final season game
The 2-5 Cougars are still scheduled to play a district game on the road against Ramah on Friday, Oct. 17, at 5 p.m. The game was not showing up on the MaxPreps schedule online, but it is still showing on the Alamo football schedule. The Ramah Mustangs are currently 2-4 overall and 2-0 in the district. Alamo is also 2-0 in the district, so this match-up looks to be a tough battle for the district lead.
Socorro Warriors suffer district loss to the Bears
The Socorro Warriors traveled to Hatch on Friday, Oct. 10. A slow start for the Warriors allowed the Hatch Valley Bears to score 47 points in the first half while the Warriors scored none.
The Warriors were better in the second half; they slowed down the Bears’ offense and got some points on the board. #22 Brendan Reichenbauch completed a 15 yard pass to #6 Jacob Angel for a Warriors touchdown in the third quarter. The Bears countered with a rushing TD early in the fourth quarter, their only score in the second half. Reichenbauch then got another passing touchdown in the fourth quarter, this time a 30 yard pass to #2 Nazario Silva.
The Hatch Valley Bears held on to their lead though, beating the Warriors 53-14.
The 0-8 Warriors have a bye this week before they play another district game at home versus the 1-6 Cobre Indians on Friday, Oct. 24, at 7 p.m. Socorro is now 0-4 in its district, with two district games to go this season. Cobre is also winless in the district so far.
