Socorro Warriors Soccer
The Warriors lost 1-2 in a close one against East Mountain that went to a second overtime period. Senior forward Javi Leon scored the goal in the match versus a strong team that now has a 4-1 record. Derek Acosta had the assist on that goal by Leon. Socorro’s coed team only had four subs for the game as two players were still out due to injuries. They fell to a 0-4 record. Next match will be at home versus the Robertson Cardinals on Tuesday, Sept. 9, at 4:00 p.m.
Socorro Lady Warriors Volleyball
The Lady Warriors varsity team is still looking for its first win this season. In their second match of the season, versus Estancia, they came back from two sets down to force a fifth set before losing that final set 11-15.
The varsity team is 0-3 while both the C-team and the JV team are 1-2 through August play. The teams were set to play at Tularosa on Tuesday, Sept. 2. On Friday, Sept. 5, they will travel to play against Carrizozo at 11:00 a.m.
Alamo Cougars Volleyball
The Lady Cougars are off to a strong start with a 2-0 record. They have won each of the matches so far this season in three straight sets. Last week, the varsity team beat Jemez Valley 3-0 at home on Tuesday and then Tse’ Yi’ Gai 3-0 away on Thursday. They were set to play Pine Hill, a 1-1 team, Sept. 2. This Sept. 5 and 6, the Cougars volleyball team will be in Magdalena as the Steers will be hosting a tournament. Match times are TBD, but tournament play begins at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, the 6.
Alamo Cougars Cross Country
The Cougars varsity XC team went to the Nashdoitsoh Invitational at the Tohatchi Hamburger Hill course on Aug. 29. Results are pending. The next meet will be at the Daniel Chinana Invitational in Jemez, at the Steven Gachupin Complex, on Sept. 6. Both the junior high and varsity teams will be traveling for that meet.
NMT Rugby
The NMT Women’s rugby team played against three teams in a Santa Fe tournament this past weekend, on Aug. 30. They lost 12-24 to the Atomic Sisters, won 27-20 against the El Paso Jackalopes, and lost a very close 19-20 versus Pikes Peak Colorado Springs. Their next match will be in Golden, Colorado, against the Colorado School of Mines B team on Sept. 27.
The Men’s team played an exhibition match on Sunday, Aug. 31, in Santa Fe. They went up against a group called the Motley 15s, which was a combination of players from six different teams. They won and rugger Ty Caldwell said it went well, “It was a good match for us to look at different components and see how well players and the format would operate.” Their first match will be at home versus Colorado College on Saturday, Sept. 20.
