Magdalena-The Magdalena Steers are now 12-9 overall and 1-4 in their district. They have only two matches left for the season, and both will be at home.
The Steers host the Animas Lady Panthers on Thursday, Nov. 6. The junior high A team plays at 3 p.m., with the JV and varsity teams playing after. Magdalena beat Animas 3-0 in their first district match of this season on Oct. 16.
For their last match of the season, only the Steers varsity team will face the Reserve Lady Mountaineers on Saturday, Nov. 8. When the Steers played in Reserve against the team on Oct. 25 for the first time this season, the Steers forced them to five sets before coming up short. Reserve won that match 3-2, but the Steers are hopeful to take this upcoming rematch.
Socorro-The Lady Warriors are now 3-18 overall and 0-5 in their district after recent matches. The varsity team lost 3-0 to Cobre last weekend, and the SHS C team lost 2-0. The SHS C team beat Cobre 2-0 on Oct. 23 in Socorro, so those teams split their matches this season. The SHS JV team had played their match to a very close 2-1 loss to Cobre on Oct. 23 in Socorro, but this time in Cobre the Lady Warriors JV team pulled off a 2-0 win over the Lady Indians: 25-21 and 25-20. Those JV teams also split their matches this season.
The SHS teams played and lost in T or C against Hot Springs on Tuesday, Nov. 4.
“Varsity is getting better, very good attitudes and scrappiness. They were just better than us.” Assistant Coach Dennis Walsh said.
They will host the Hatch Valley Lady Bears at home on Thursday, Nov. 6. The JV team plays at 5 p.m., with varsity playing after. This will be the last match of their season.
