The Warriors faced a tough challenge last week, losing a doubleheader against Tularosa on their home field and again in Tularosa over the weekend. Despite this setback, Coach believes the team has demonstrated resilience.

Last year, the team was redistricted to include Tularosa in their baseball schedule. Montaño noted that they are familiar with the Tularosa players because Socorro’s football and basketball teams have historically competed against them.

“We performed well defensively at the start, and our pitching was stellar. However, we made some errors, had bad throws, and missed a few balls behind the plate,” Montaño said. “The fact that the team kept battling and managed to score more runs at the end showed their character.”

He emphasized the need to start hitting the ball early and scoring runs quickly to improve their chances in future games. “As I always tell them, we can make mistakes and errors, but we need to hit the ball to score runs,” he added.

Montaño expressed confidence in the team’s pitching, stating, “We’ve managed to get our pitching organized, so I believe we’re in good shape there. We just need to focus on hitting the ball and minimizing mistakes. If we do that, we’ll be fine. I believe we can surprise them.”

He also mentioned that there shouldn’t be any nervousness going into the game, as they have already played Tularosa. “Baseball is 98% mental. There’s always something happening, and players must keep thinking. Getting them into the right mindset is crucial,” he explained.

Coach Montaño hoped the team could get their mindset right in the days leading up to the next matches. “They need to understand that they can enter the game ready to compete. We know we’re better than what we’ve shown, and we have the potential to improve significantly,” Montaño said.

Away

Warriors had a second chance to face Tularosa on Saturday. Montaño said they lost both games but had a good first game with a 4-5.l

“In the second game, it was 11-4, and the bats went cold,” Montaño said, “Honestly, it was the same. The only difference was our defense made minimal mistakes in the first game.”

The next game for the Warriors this week will be against Hatch.
