The Socorro library is offering a full slate of services and programs this winter and spring, ranging from free tax preparation to children’s literacy initiatives and wellness activities for adults.

Beginning Feb. 4, the library will host Tax Help New Mexico, a program through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) initiative. The service provides free tax preparation for individuals earning under $67,000 annually and for anyone age 65 and older. Appointments are required and will be available on Wednesdays through April 8.

Participants must bring a valid photo ID, Social Security cards for all filers, and income documentation. Because the federal government is no longer issuing paper refund checks, filers will also need a bank account for direct deposit. Library staff can help connect participants with local banks if needed. Appointments can be made by calling or visiting the library in person.

February will also feature the library’s annual “Love Your Library” campaign, which raises funds for programming through community donations. Proceeds support adult book club, children’s activities, summer reading and the Reading Is Fundamental (RIF) program. This spring, library staff will again visit local schools to distribute free books to children from pre-kindergarten through fifth grade.

Children’s programming continues with weekly story times on Tuesdays and Fridays at 10:30 a.m., and monthly STEAM-focused arts and crafts sessions on Wednesdays at 3:30 p.m. The library’s Summer Reading Program will kick off June 4 with a special event.

Wellness offerings include adult yoga classes on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, with a temporary schedule change beginning in February due to tax assistance. Certified instructor Sarah Demorest will lead structured yoga classes on Mondays at 9:15 a.m. through April. Meditation sessions are held Wednesdays and Fridays at 8:30 a.m. and are open to all experience levels.

The library’s book club meets every Thursday at 3 p.m. Participation is free, books are provided, and new members are welcome to drop in at any time.

For more information on programs or to schedule a tax assistance appointment, community members are encouraged to contact or visit the library directly.
