STATE POLICE recovered a decomposed body near a car in the Magdalena area. No official identification was available, but the vehicle had been the object of search for the past month in the belief that foul play might have occurred to the owner who was reported missing.

IT TOOK THE WARRIORS 39 seconds to do what two other teams had been unable to do in 96 minutes of play against the T or C Tigers… SCORE! Warrior Alan Lopez took the pigskin on a double reverse in the initial play from scrimmage and with the help of two key blocks from Quarterback Felix Barreras and Scott Christiansen got in the clear and took off on a 72-yard scoring jaunt to put Socorro on the scoreboard. Raymond Chavez then made good on his PAT for a 7-0 Warriors lead. But from there on Socorro had to struggle to finally come out on top of a 14-3 contest which, statistically, should have been a runaway.

A MALE JUVENILE now awaits a Tuesday hearing, after allegedly firing a gun into the air in a Socorro neighborhood, according to the state Juvenile Probation and Parole Office. The 17-year-old was placed briefly in detention and then released, said Romaine Serna, special assistant to the department secretary. According to a probable cause statement from the Socorro Police Department, officers were called to a Main Street location on Oct. 19, after receiving a report of a shot being fired. Upon arrival, officers contacted several subjects including the juvenile, who was leaving the scene. Officers were able to get several statements from witnesses, as well as the male juvenile, who said that he was in the backseat of a friend’s vehicle when some subjects began to argue with him and his friends. According to the probable cause statement, during this argument, the subjects began to throw rocks at the vehicle they were in, so the juvenile pulled out a .45 caliber handgun, stuck his arm out from the passenger side window and “discharged one round into the air.” The juvenile then fled the scene and hid the handgun but later took officers to where he hid it.
