EDMUND H. KASE III, assistant district attorney, will attend a regional institute of the National District Attorneys Association in San Francisco. One seminar will be “Interrogation and Confessions” and “The Law of Arrest, Search, and Seizure.” The other will be on “Narcotic and Non-Narcotic Drugs: their use, Abuse and the Law.”
TWO YOUTH have been fined by Police Magistrate Robert Lukesh, sentence is pending for a third, and a 17-year-old has been referred to juvenile authorities because of the beating of a New Mexico Tech student. A man, 18, and another man, 19, were fined $10 each last Friday night after pleading guilty to charges of assault and battery. Sentence is pending for another man, 18, who also pleaded guilty to assault and battery. City Policeman Steve Saavedra who arrested the four on the night of the beating said the victim remained at Socorro General Hospital overnight for observation after the attack. Saavedra said the incident occurred at School of Mines Road and Bernard Street.
AIRMAN BYRON L. WAXLER, son of Mrs. Helen W. Waxler, airman has been selected for training at Sheppard Air Force Base, Tx., as an Air Force transportation specialist. The airman, a 1965 graduate of Socorro School, recently completed basic training at Lackland Air Force Base, Tx.

THE SOCORRO CHAMBER OF COMMERCE has chosen Carole Hill, first runner-up to the State Fair Queen in the 1965 contest, to represent the city at the Pecos Valley Pecan Festival in Carlsbad. Miss Hill, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Hubert Hill of Socorro and a student at New Mexico State University at Las Cruces, will have as her escort for the festival, Robert Greiner, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Greiner of Socorro, and a dentalman in the Marine Corps who is on leave from Da Nang, South Vietnam. Mr. and Mrs. Hill will accompany their daughter and Greiner to the festival.
MICHAEL SARRACINO, JR. celebrated his fourth birthday with a party at the home of his parents, the Michael Sarracinos. Refreshments of ice cream and a birthday cake decorated in blue and white were served to the young guests after gifts were opened by the guest of honor.

JAMES GRICE and Frank Benavidez announced this week that they had greatly appreciated the community support during their first year in business as co-owners of the Socorro Motor Sales and Service located at 913 California St. “We have had a wonderful reception here in Socorro,” Grice said. “Frank and I have bought homes here and intend to stay.” Grice also said that the company had attracted several new employees to Socorro, all of whom have established permanent homes. In order to highlight their anniversary sale, the company is giving away a 19 inch General Electric portable television set with the purchase of each new and late model car.
