LOCAL SCHOOL OFFICIAL Janice Argabright now has a new title: state Environmental Improvement Board member. Gov. Gary Johnson recently appointed Argabright to a new seat on the board, said Ruth Kelly, state Boards and Commissions director. Kelly said Argabright’s experience made her stand out.  Argabright, 43, said she must get state Senate approval first before she formally joins the board, which holds hearings on environmental regulations and those who violate environmental laws. Argabright said Janet Green, state secretary of tourism, recommended her for the position. Argabright then went on to interview with Johnson. Argabright, daughter of Owl Bar owner Rowena Eaton Baca, served as principal of San Antonio Elementary school for 11 years before moving on to an administrative role. She earned her bachelor’s in elementary education from New Mexico State University, and a master’s degree in education from University of New Mexico.

THERESA ESPINDOLA, a native Socorroan, recently coauthored a research article in the American Journal of Physiology/Lung Cellular and Molecular Physiology. The article is called “CCSP modulates airway dysfunction and host responses in an OVA challenged mouse model.” Espindola, a research technician at the Lovelace Research Institute, earned a biology degree from New Mexico Tech. She is the daughter of Angela Sanchez O’Donald.

PASTOR ANDY PAVLAK won’t be saying goodbye when he celebrates Mass for the last time this weekend at San Miguel Mission in Socorro. Pavlak calls his departure from San Miguel after 8 ½ years to serve as pastor of San Felipe de Neri in Old Town in Albuquerque a “bittersweet” one.  The moving around of pastors in positions in the Catholic Church opened the door for Pavlak’s move to San Felipe. Pavlak said he had been in prayer since September about possibly making a move when he received the call from Archbishop John Wester about going to San Felipe.
