Florida woman identified in high speed collision
A Florida woman has been identified as the driver who reportedly entered Quemado at a high rate of speed causing a collision.
The Catron County Sheriff’s office said they obtained arrest warrants on Lindsay Stone who was arrested on multiple charges once she was released from the hospital.
According to the Catron County Sheriff’s office, at approximately 7:50 a.m. on Dec. 11 a Catron Deputy observed a silver vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed and had crossed over into the opposite traffic lane.
Catron County Sheriff Keith Hughes said the vehicle was clocked by the deputy at a speed in excess of 100 miles per hour as it entered the town of Quemado.
“(The)Deputy engaged his emergency lights to conduct a traffic stop and the vehicle continued traveling at an excessive speed. The vehicle then struck a second vehicle. Then traveled into a dirt parking lot of a convenience store before coming to a stop. The driver then exited the vehicle and fled on foot before being taken into custody.” Hughes said.
The Sheriff’s office later reported Stone’s vehicle collided with a red pick up truck with two occupants at Second Street and Hwy 60.
All three people involved in the collision were transported to White Mountain Regional Hospital in Springerville. According to the Sheriff’s office, alcohol or narcotics are not believed to have been a factor, they believe a mental episode may have played a major contributing factor in the crash.
“Big thanks to Quemado and Pie Town Fire Departments as well as NM DOT for assistance with traffic control. Would also like to thank all the citizens who came and provided assistance in several aspects,” The Sheriff’s office said.
According to the Sheriff’s office, the two occupants of the red pickup are set to be released from the hospital.
