High speed collision in Quemado
Highway 60 is closed in Quemado due to a major crash this morning, according to the Catron County Sheriff’s department.
Catron County Sheriff Keith Hughes said a vehicle traveling east on Hwy 60 was clocked by a deputy at speed in excess of 100 miles per hour as it entered the town of Quemado.
“(The)Deputy engaged his emergency lights to conduct a traffic stop and the vehicle continued traveling at an excessive speed. The vehicle then struck a second vehicle. Then traveled into a dirt parking lot of a convenience store before coming to a stop. The driver then exited the vehicle and fled on foot before being taken into custody." Hughes said.
The name of the driver has not been released yet but has been identified as female from Florida. Hughes said she will be facing multiple charges and all three involved were transported to hospital in Springerville AZ.
