The Village of Magdalena Board of Trustees voted Monday evening to approve the hiring of a new deputy marshal, Noe Borjas, following an executive session that focused on personnel matters.

Borjas told trustees he began his law enforcement career in Florida in 2011 and said he had  experience in patrol, investigations, SWAT and narcotics.

He said he wanted to emphasize the importance of officer education, de-escalation skills and liability management for agencies.

“I look forward to working for this town,” Borjas said, “I really wanted to thank you guys for the opportunity to allow me to come here and be able to use my experience for this village.”

In department reports the Magdalena EMS responded to 11 calls in November, while the fire department reported no calls. Marshal’s reports showed a mix of traffic citations, public service calls and miscellaneous cases. The municipal judge’s report said there was one speeding trial earlier in the month that was dismissed after the officer failed to lay a foundation during testimony.

The next public meeting will take place on Dec. 22 at 5 p.m.
