Jimmie Ray Ahner 1945-2026
Jimmie Ray Ahner, 80, of Los Lunas, passed away on Feb. 11, 2026.
Born Sept. 20, 1945, in Tulsa, Okla., Jim was the son of Helen Nicholas and Fay Ahner and
stepson of Jesse Nicolas, all of whom preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by
his step-sister, Barbara Jones.
Jim married JoAnn Aragon on October 24, 1969, in Ramah, N.M. Their 56-year marriage was
centered on faith, partnership and devotion to family.
In the 1970s, Jim owned and operated a body shop in Grants, where he was known for his
craftsmanship and integrity. He later worked as an insurance adjuster until retiring in 2007. He
enjoyed gardening, cooking, fixing projects and caring for animals, which he loved deeply.
Jim was a devoted husband, father and grandfather, who traveled countless miles supporting
his children at rodeos and 4-H competitions. He will be remembered for his steady strength,
kindness and generosity.
He is survived by his wife, JoAnn Ahner; his son, Casey Ahner (Cassidy); his daughters, Jenny
Sullivan (Brian) and Debbie Thompson (Jimmy); his grandchildren, Cayle Ahner, Cohen Ahner
and Charli Thompson Rivera (Rene); and several step-siblings.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, Feb. 27, at the Church of Jesus Christ of
Latter-day Saints Belen Chapel, 2199 N.M. 304, Rio Communities, interment at 2:30 p.m. at
Santa Fe National Cemetery.
