Nita Crawford July 1, 1957 – Jan. 1, 2026

Nita Crawford, age 68, passed away peacefully at her home in Socorro, New Mexico, on January 1, 2026, after a courageous battle with stage 4 kidney cancer.

Nita was born on July 1, 1957, in Belen, New Mexico, to Dalton and Merlinda Crawford, who raised her with strong values of faith, love, and perseverance that guided her throughout her life.

Throughout her life, Nita made her home in Houston, Texas; Austin, Texas; Albuquerque, New Mexico; and Socorro, New Mexico, where she spent her final days surrounded by love and familiarity.

Nita was a devoted daughter, a loving sister, and a cherished mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her family was the center of her world, and she took great pride in each generation, offering unconditional love, guidance, and support. Her legacy lives on through the many lives she touched and nurtured.

A woman of quiet strength and enduring faith, Nita placed her trust in God throughout her life, especially during her illness. She faced each day with grace, courage, and hope, drawing comfort from her faith and sharing that comfort with those around her.

Nita is survived by her children: Tanya and (Patrick) “Leno”; Duane “Bubba” and (Sandra); Kevin and (Margaret); and Travis.

She is also survived by her beloved grandchildren: Kendrick, (Anissa), Jaryn, Jasmine, Jayla, Josiah, Amen, Julian, Kevin Jr., Gabriella, Michael, Karissa, Tyla, Avery, and Jerome.

Nita was a proud great-grandmother to Kyla and Dominick, and she eagerly awaited the arrival of another great-granddaughter, a joy she held close to her heart.

Her siblings also survive her: Sandra, Brenda, Ina, and her brother, Dalton.

In addition, Nita is lovingly remembered by many nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles, and a wide circle of friends, all of whom were touched by her kindness, strength, and generous spirit.

Nita passed from this life surrounded by the peace of her home and now rests in the eternal presence of the Lord. Though her absence is deeply felt, her family finds comfort in knowing she has been welcomed into God’s loving arms and reunited with loved ones who have gone before her.

Her memory will forever live on through her family, her faith, and the love she gave so freely.
