Dear Sammy

Dear Sammy

Dear Sammy,

I am writing to you because I am completely torn and need some unbiased advice.

My situation is this: I have been with my significant other for 12 years, and we recently decided to move in together. We found the perfect apartment, but now my partner insists on bringing along their enormous collection of vintage puppets. This collection takes up half the living room, and frankly, it gives me the creeps.

I love my partner, but I am starting to feel like I am moving in with their hobby rather than with them. How do I approach this without sounding critical of their passion or jeopardizing our new living arrangement?

Sincerely,

Crowded in love

Dear Crowded in Love,

If possible, find an apartment that has an extra room for both of your hobbies. If this is unattainable and MUST be in the living room, have a discussion with your partner about space. Pick a number (like 10?) that is acceptable to keep in sight. Your partner can pick their 10 favorites or circulate the display on a weekly or monthly basis. The rest can be stored appropriately. (P.S. we’d understand if you stored them in the dumpster.)

Dear Sammy,

I’m interested in a little perspective from you for our Socorro Youth.

I occasionally hear from kids that there just isn’t a lot to do in Socorro nowadays for our young people. What did you do to keep entertained “back in the day” that might give our current crop of awesome Socorro young folks some ideas on staying engaged and interested in their hometown?

Thank you!

Dennis Walsh

Dear Dennis,

We encourage the Socorro youth to look into clubs and programs around town, to better be involved in the community. As far as what we did growing up, here are some ideas: Wandering the library, games with friends, walking adventures, fishing, and learning an instrument. We had to make our own fun from imagination and create things without downloadable instructions. Additionally, to our Socorro Youth, get involved in your town’s politics! It sounds boring, but you are our future. Get curious, problem solve, be imaginative. Someday you will be the heads of our departments.
