SMS Braves tip off 2025-26 Socorro County basketball season

The Socorro Middle School Braves hosted the Los Lunas Tigers on Monday, Nov. 17, for the first games of the season. The Tigers came away with wins in both of Monday’s games, but the Braves eighth graders played a competitive game and were close right up until the end. SMS seventh graders lost 43-22 while the eighth graders lost 36-30.

The Braves will play against Hatch on the road on Thursday, Nov. 20, at 4:30 p.m. for seventh grade and 5:30 p.m. for eighth grade.

The SMS Lady Braves played away against Los Lunas on Monday as well. The Lady Braves were scheduled to play at home against Pojoaque on Wednesday, Nov. 19, at 5 and 6 p.m. They will play at home against Hatch on Thursday, Nov. 20, at 5 and 6 p.m.

Socorro-SHS teams will have their first games in Magdalena on Tuesday, Dec. 2: girls varsity play at 5 p.m. and the boys varsity game is at 6:30 p.m.

Magdalena-11/18/25 JH (B) girls and boys 4 & 5 p.m. at home against To’hajiilee (cancelled-to be rescheduled).

11/20/25 JH (A) girls and boys 4 & 5 p.m. at Carrizozo.

11/21/25 JH (A & B) girls and boys at the Quemado JH tournament.

11/22/25 Varsity girls and boys in the Magdalena Scrimmage at home, games starting at 10 a.m.

11/25/25 “C” Boys, JV, V girls and boys at 3 p.m. at home against Hot Springs (2 gyms).

Alamo-11/21/25 Junior high girls and boys at Quemado Junior High Tourney, times TBA.

11/22/25 Varsity girls and boys at the Magdalena Scrimmage, games starting at 10:00 a.m.

11/24/25 JV girls and boys at home against Wallatowa at 4 p.m.
