Magdalena Steers’ winning streak comes to an end
The Magdalena Steers had a long trip to Logan on Friday, Nov. 7, to take on the Longhorns in the semifinals. Unfortunately, their season ended as it had started: with a road loss to the powerhouse Logan team.
The Steers had lost 47-32 to the Longhorns for their season opener back on Aug. 22. The Magdalena team went on to win eight straight games and a district title before this postseason rematch against Logan. The long drive and the busy season may have caught up to the Steers heading into this second contest, as the home team Longhorns controlled the game to take a 40-12 win.
“Thankful for our seniors for stepping up. We came up short but gained valuable experience for our young, up-and-coming athletes.” Daniels said.
In the final game, senior Ky Stephens had a 48-yard rushing TD, and Steer freshman JW Hunter got the other touchdown for the Steers with a punt block and return.
The Steers football team has four seniors moving on: Ky Stephens, Matthew Lopez, Noah, Guerro and Michael Young. However, the remaining 14 players on the roster are underclassmen who can return for next season with a lot more experience.
“Great season, proud of my players. I feel like we were overachievers. What we got out of these young men was amazing.” Head Coach Danny Daniels said.
The Magdalena football team finished the season with an 8-2 overall record and were district champs at 3-0 in their district. The Steers scored 479 points this season only giving up 179. Team and player stats weren’t posted yet for their final game, but stats for all the previous games can be found here:

Socorro Warriors named to First Team All-District
The Socorro Warriors had three players named to First Team All-District: #2 Nazario Silva, #22 Brendan Reichenbach and #62 Joseph Rivera. These stars have bright futures: Rivera and Silva are juniors while Reichenbach is a sophomore.
Socorro will be having a football banquet on Thursday, Oct. 13, at 6 p.m. at the high school. This banquet for players and families will be an opportunity to honor the players and recognize their efforts this year in the sport.
