Magdalena basketball
The Magdalena varsity girls are currently 16-3 overall and 1-1 in their district. The Steers varsity team is 9-9 overall and 1-1 in their district as well.
1/22 JH (A), V girls & boys at home versus Animas, 2 gyms. Varsity: boys won 73-14 and the girls won 67-15.
1/23 JH (B) girls & boys at Jemez.
1/24 V girls & boys at Cliff. The girls barely lost 42-41 against the now 19-1 Cliff team. The boys played a close game as well but lost 43-38 to the now 18-2 Cliff team.
1/26 JH (A&B) girls at home versus Socorro.
1/26 JH (A&B) boys at Socorro: B team won by three and the A team won by 20.

SHS Lady Warriors basketball
The Lady Warriors are 3-16 for the season.
1/22-24 The Lady Warriors won one of their three games in the Tularosa Tournament: L against Tularosa 53-15, W against Mescalero Apache 37-28 and L versus Hot Springs 55-15.
This year’s team has now matched last year’s win total, and they still have seven more games on their schedule.

SMS Braves
1/21 at Estancia, eighth graders only. They lost by two points.
1/26 at home versus Magdalena: seventh graders lost by three in a “nail-biter” and the eighth graders lost as well.
1/28 at Pojoaque.
The seventh graders are now 6-5 overall, while the eighth graders are 4-10 overall for the season.
SMS Lady Braves

Boxing
Socorro Firefighter Mathew Jojola’s boxing match has been rescheduled for Saturday, March 14, due to weather. The Battle of Blue versus Red had been scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 24. This event will still take place at the Encanto Event Center in Roswell, with the doors opening at 6 p.m. and the first bout at 7:30 p.m. Jojola will be facing off against a police officer from Roswell in what will be Jojola’s first boxing match.
