TWO MASKED MEN who recently held up the Super 8 Hotel remain at large. The two men entered the office around midnight, jumped over the counter and demanded money, according to a city police report. One of the men was carrying a pistol. The burglars took money from the register and demanded the clerk open the hotel’s safe. The clerk was told to lay on the floor as the two men fled the motel. The men may also be connected to a stolen car police found at about the same time as the burglary, Socorro Police Chief Joel Haley said.

THREE LOCAL TEENS earned a chance for an adventure at the bottom of the world-and they are looking for the community’s help to do it. Emily Kyle, Marica Martinic, both 17, and Nathan Zecco, 14, were chosen to be academic ambassadors to New Zealand and Australia this summer. Kyle and Martinic are students at Socorro High School, while Zecco attends Sarracino. The trip is part of the People-to-People organization founded by President Dwight Eisenhower. The 22-day trip includes meeting with government officials, interacting with other students, participating in educational activities and interacting with host families throughout the two countries.

JEFF BHASKER’S goal as a producer is to help artists in the music industry to find their vision. The Socorro High School graduate was honored at the 2016 Grammy Awards for helping make those dreams come true. Bhasker was honored as Producer of the Year. He was also honored with an award as producer for the Record of the Year “Uptown Funk.” The Mark Ronson song, which features Bruno Mars, may have been the most recognizable song in the world this year, and was included as part of the Superbowl 50 halftime show. Bhasker said it took nine months to create “Uptown Funk” but only 30 seconds to realize it was special.
