A MAN, ARRESTED last week in connection with the death of a New Mexico Tech student,

waived his right to a competency examination at his preliminary hearing in Socorro Magistrate

court. Magistrate Judge Felix Saavedra ordered the case to be bound over to 7 th District Court at

the close of the five-minute hearing. The charge stems from an incident where police said the

suspect intentionally ran over the victim. In the criminal complaint, the suspect claimed the two

were riding around in his vehicle, an argument developed, and he told the victim he wanted

him out of the car. When asked what the two were arguing about, the suspect told police in the

criminal complaint that the victim wanted to fight him and told him he could hit him and knock

him out during their argument. A video taken from a security camera at Leseberg Auto and

Towing shows the victim exiting the car and walking across the car and walking across the

street. In the video it looks as if the suspect intentionally traveled onto the shoulder of the road

to hit the victim from behind, the complaint stated. A
