NOVEMBER 18, 1975
FIVE SENIORS, three juniors, and two sophomores got the nod to represent the Socorro
Warriors on the District 5-AAA All-District group. Leading the Socorro selections are fullback Bill
Haley and tackle Neal Terry who were unanimous choice for both the first team offensive and
first team defensive units. Both gridders are seniors and were two of only three players in the
entire district to receive the honor of being picked to both the offensive and defensive firs
team. Other Warriors making the first team offensive unit were junior Noah Rico at guard, and
center Ted Taylor, a senior. Picked to the second team on offense were junior Felix Barreras at
quarterback, tight end Scott Christiansen, also a junior, and sophomore Alan Lopez as a back.
Receiving honorable mention were senior tackle Carl Ross, and kicking specialist Steve Sellers, a
junior. Making the second team on defense were Chuck Trujillo, senior, and sophomore Ray
Aragon, while senior Raymond Chavez made it as defensive back.

LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT discovered $20,400 in cash and equipment, used for
manufacturing methamphetamine, following a raid on a Newberry residence, according to
documents. The county Sheriff’s department has charged a man who lived at the residence,
with seven counts of receiving stolen property, possession of drug paraphernalia, three counts
of possession of an explosive device and one count each of distributing and trafficking a
controlled substance, according to court documents. Investigators, according to the report,
upon entering the home found drug paraphernalia, equipment for manufacturing
methamphetamine and white powdery substance at the residence. The complaint stated that
investigators found several weapons, some of which were stolen. In addition to the weapons,
the complaint stated that stolen appliances, furniture and tools were also recovered. There
were also five explosive devices which were golf ball sized materials wrapped in tin foil, some of
which had fuses.
JANUARY 28, 2016
A MAN, ARRESTED last week in connection with the death of a New Mexico Tech student,
waived his right to a competency examination at his preliminary hearing in Socorro Magistrate
court. Magistrate Judge Felix Saavedra ordered the case to be bound over to 7 th District Court at
the close of the five-minute hearing. The charge stems from an incident where police said the
suspect intentionally ran over the victim. In the criminal complaint, the suspect claimed the two
were riding around in his vehicle, an argument developed, and he told the victim he wanted
him out of the car. When asked what the two were arguing about, the suspect told police in the
criminal complaint that the victim wanted to fight him and told him he could hit him and knock
him out during their argument. A video taken from a security camera at Leseberg Auto and
Towing shows the victim exiting the car and walking across the car and walking across the
street. In the video it looks as if the suspect intentionally traveled onto the shoulder of the road
to hit the victim from behind, the complaint stated. A
