Letter to the Editor: Spay and Neuter math problem
Editor:
Have you noticed lately that your dog or cat suddenly has a gleam in its eye or been a bit rambunctious? Do they look our the window and sigh? It’s once again the time when love is in the air and soon there will be lots of unexpected puppies and kittens appearing. Each year about 6.5 million unwanted animals come into shelters, 2.7 of which will eventually be euthanized because shelters and staff are overwhelmed. Our dedicated staff at the Socorro Shelter work diligently to find homes for all the animals that come in, but most times it’s a losing battle. The best way to fight this battle is to get our pets spayed or neutered. Luckily there is help to do that in Socorro and Catron Counties. Animal Protective Association of Socorro (APAS) offers assistance to low income families and seniors to get their pets “fixed.” It’s as easy as calling (575) 419-7848, give us your information and get a coupon for the procedure with one of our local vets. Simple as that.
Just remember, dogs can’t add and cats can’t subtract, but they sure can multiply. hopefully together we can solve this particular math problem.
