On Friday, Jan. 30, the Socorro Warriors won all of their team matches in the District Duals to extend their district undefeated streak to five straight years.

The Socorro wrestling teams bounced back with a strong showing in January after a rough December when almost the entire team got sick at the same time. They missed practices and cancelled a trip to a meet in Colorado back in December.

“Yeah, it’s been a pretty tumultuous year. Been a lot of healing and injuries and just sickness. So it's really satisfying to win the district championship,” Head Coach Joel Partridge said. “That's five years undefeated. We haven't dropped the district duel in five years. That says a lot about the coaches, our staff…they do a great job with the kids. And, of course, the kids…they got to go and wrestle the matches.”

Scores were not yet posted on trackwrestling.com or flowrestling.com. Following are the unofficial results for the Warriors based on the final scores showing on the scoreboard that day:

Versus the Goddard Rockets: W 39-24

Versus the Artesia Bulldogs: W 51-30

Versus the Ruidoso Warriors: W 45-36

Versus the Cobre Indians: W 51-18

“These are my first, actual varsity wins, so that’s kind of crazy. I've been really busy, so I didn't even make it to the meets,” Julian “Red” Adcock said about getting three wins for the day. “I walk in, I do it, then I leave.”

Scores for the Lady Warriors were not posted yet either. The Lady Warriors had matches against Ruidoso and Cobre. The teams on each side of each match had forfeits for bouts in various weight classes that had not been tallied by the end of the matches.

“The first match, I'm supposed to be 105 but they didn't have anybody, really, so I bumped up to the 110’s. Basically got like a tech and a pin, and then after I just wrestled the second time, but it's like, yeah, it was not good.” Kiara Martinez said.

Partridge, Lady Warriors Head Coach James McNeil, Assistant Coach Chris Rottman, Assistant Coach David Gutierrez, and volunteer assistant coach Sammy Vivian have worked hard to build this program from the ground up over the years.

“There was a point in time where we had our struggles in the district level, and it feels good to win district and do it in front of our home crowd, and do it decisively,” Partridge said, “We're very proud of the kids, very proud of the coaches and all of the parents for hanging in there. Go Warriors,” Partridge said.

The coaches gave shout-outs to the student-athletes, and the wrestlers in turn gave shout-outs back to the coaches.

“God bless and thank you for these coaches. Wouldn't be here without these coaches,” Kade McNeil said after winning all four of his bouts, one by forfeit but the other three with pins.

Wrestling coach legend Vivian said that there were a few mistakes made but overall the Socorro wrestlers were great. They’ll have a little bit of time to work on those minor mistakes and be fully prepared for the upcoming regionals and then state.

“Happy that we got the five time…proud of the whole team and everybody did their job that they're supposed to. Good day,” Isiah Estrada said.
